Plot
Malcolm Turner (Lawrence) has been assigned a desk job as FBI PR officer since he wanted to be with his wife during her delivery. An incident occurs at the Orange County where his former partner is killed while posing undercover. His partner was doing surveillance on a former Military Intelligence Specialist by the name of Tom Fuller who had retired and worked for a private corporation. The FBI had reasons to believe that he was developing a virus which will create back doors on all data stored on FBI/NSA’s computers. Turner, deeply saddened by this incident, asks his chief permission to go to Orange County, but is refused. On the pretext of attending a safety conference, Turner leaves his home, taking with him the entire “Big Momma” costumes.
Turner goes undercover in the house of the Suspect, dressed up as Big Momma, and works as a nanny for three children: Molly, a teenage goth girl; Carrie, a younger girl who loves dancing; and Andrew, a two-year-old boy who does not talk yet, but loves to dive horizontally to the floor from heights such as cupboards or bunkbeds. Big Momma has to follow a schedule on the wall, showing for every child and every hour of a week the child’s activity. She neglects her tasks and is fired, but then makes a surprising recovery in her duties and is asked to stay.
Big Momma is soon accepted within the household and becomes a daily part of their lives. Tasks such as accompanying Mrs. Fuller to the spa, taking the family to the beach, watching out for trouble, or simply playing a game of bingo soon become part of her routine. She also teaches Carrie and her friends how to shake their booty when organising a dance session. The girls later use some of the choreography for the state championships. Big momma then enters doing backflips.
His cover is blown when the FBI soon realises he is the nanny and warns him of an arrest if he doesn’t comply with their needs. Molly gets kidnapped while partying in a place called “The Dark Zone”, and Turner soon finds himself in trouble when he also gets kidnapped.
Big Momma has a blade, which Molly reaches for and uses to free the two. Big Momma sees Tom giving a Chinese man a disc, he puts it in his laptop (and is granted full access to FBI data), and he points a gun at Tom. Tom swears secrecy, and the session is interrupted by Big Momma on a sea-doo jumping it onto the deck, sending it into 2 terrorists and landing on one herself. She helps Tom recover from what happened, and they escape. However, they are chased by 2 of the terrorists, and Tom is very impressed by the way Big Momma handles them. Big Momma and Tom leave, but one of the terrorists fires a gun at Big Momma. The FBI shows up and takes care of the terrorists, and Big Momma’s co-worker is given handcuffs to put on Tom, but Big Momma tells the woman in charge that Tom’s family was threatened, and he was an unwilling participant. She says that she “owes her that much” and Big Momma reveals her identity as Malcolm, an FBI agent, to Tom, who says that it explains so much.

- Paul Giamatti, who played Malcolm’s sidekick John from the original, did not reprise his role.
- Ella Mitchell, who played the real “Big Momma” from the original, did not reprise her role.
- Both Mark Moses and Chloe Moretz have appeared in Desperate Housewives, Mark playing Paul Young and Chloe playing Sherri in two episodes
