Arrival in Port Charles to Coincide with Explosive February Sweep Storyline

Three-time Emmy Award(r)-winning actress Sarah Brown returns to the daytime drama “General Hospital” in the new role of Claudia Zacchara, it was announced today by Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group. Ms. Brown’s first appearance on air is Thursday, January 31.

In the storyline, Claudia arrives in Port Charles and ends up in a chance meeting with the town’s mob boss, Sonny Corinthos, and sparks fly. Soon thereafter, Sonny - still reeling from the rejection of his marriage proposal to girlfriend Kate - will have a one-night stand with the super-sexy and mysterious woman, not knowing who she is and why she has arrived in town. Turmoil will ensue once Sonny learns Claudia’s identity and how that could impact his business. Likewise, Claudia’s family (father Anthony, brother Johnny and attorney Trevor) will be anything but pleased.

“I am pleased to welcome Sarah Brown back to ABC and ‘General Hospital’,” said Mr. Frons in making the announcement. “Fans will have the opportunity to see her incredible acting ability and chemistry with Maurice Benard when the pair go head to head again from day one.”

“I am thrilled to be returning to my ‘General Hospital’ family, and especially looking forward to portraying a new character that will immediately create fireworks throughout the town of Port Charles and its many residents,” adds Ms. Brown.

Ms. Brown originally created and played the role of Carly Benson, the eventual wife of mob boss Sonny Corinthos and the lost daughter of Nurse Bobbi Spencer, in 1996. She received praise from both critics and fans and garnered three Daytime Emmys(r) for her portrayal of the spunky and misunderstood character. She left the show in 2001 to pursue other professional opportunities, which included roles in primetime series “Without a Trace,” “The Closer,” “K-Ville” and “Monk,” among many others.

Recently awarded three Daytime Emmy Awards, “General Hospital” celebrates 45 years of broadcasting on April 1, 2008, and is the longest-running dramatic serial on the ABC Television Network, having aired over 11,000 episodes. A winner of a record nine Emmys for Best Daytime Drama, “General Hospital” consistently rates as one of the top daytime programs with Women 18-49.

“General Hospital” was created by Frank and Doris Hursley. Jill Farren Phelps is the executive producer. Mary O’Leary, Mercer Barrows and Michelle Henry are producers. “General Hospital” airs Monday-Friday (3:00-4:00 p.m., ET, 2:00-3:00 p.m., PT) on the ABC Television Network.
