GH’s Michael Is Shot
This week on GH, Claudia solidifies her plan to eliminate Sonny. “It’s a good business move as far as she sees it,” explains Sarah Brown (Claudia). “When she first went and met Sonny, one thing led to another. In Claudia’s mind, she could manipulate him and every other man she’s done business with. Claudia’s mind-set is to get in bed with him, literally and figuratively. That’s the one thing that she can do that Johnny can’t — sleep with the enemy. But the way Sonny treats her is just awful. He’s horrible to her, and if she can’t work him the way she wants to, she’s got to take him out.”
Claudia enlists Ian and Jerry in her deadly plan. “The relationship with Ian is the one that’s familiar,” Brown continues. “Ian is a man she has done business with in Milan. She never knew he was a doctor, but he’s connected. He knows how it works, and so he’s manipulating both sides of the coin. The relationship with Jerry is new, and a bit of a concern for Claudia at the start. She doesn’t know Jerry from Jax [laughs]. What happens is, Ian and Claudia need to work together because one of Sonny’s conditions of a truce is that nothing moves through the ports. Ian comes to her and says, ‘I want you to move this product,’ which is illegal narcotics. She says, ‘I’d love to, except we’ve got somebody standing in our way who just told me if we move anything in this city, he’s going to take me out. So let’s jump ahead and cut him out and move our product as we wish.’”
As the villainous trio moves forward, Claudia picks a fight with Carly to establish an alibi, but Jerry has second thoughts. “Just like a man,” laughs Brown. “Even though Ian brought Jerry in as the hitman, Jerry refuses to do the hit because it’s too closely related to his brother. So, Ian decides he can take it on himself, and Claudia foolishly goes along with it.”
Though Jerry attempts to stop the events, he’s too late. A shot is fired, but it misses its target and wounds young Michael instead. “It goes so terribly wrong,” sighs Brown. “Claudia may not be a mother, but she certainly knows you don’t hurt children. Child abuse is as far down the totem pole as slime on shoes. You don’t go there. For her, this is a terrible tragedy, one I don’t imagine this character ever getting over.”
Or Sonny for that matter.
