Has GH’s Claudia Gone Too Far?
A tragic incident leaves Kate’s life hanging in the balance this week, thanks to Michael.
While attempting to dispose of a gun he purchase, Michael accidentally drops it. the weapon discharges and a bullet strikes Kate. Because Sonny sternly warned him about guns, a terrified Michael runs away and hides out on a cargo ship. Meanwhile, Claudia makes a veiled threat against Kate to Sonny. He rejects Claudia and, feeling angry and humiliated, Claudia comes across a seemingly lifeless Kate — and does nothing to help.
“What do they say about a woman scorned?” laughs Sarah Brown of Claudia’s cold-blooded decision not to come to Kate’s aid. “Claudia was raised by her uncle to be a woman in a man’s world. She’s not just a tough broad. She’s got power behind her. She’s got the family behind her. and you’ll see, she has some secrets and history that will unfold.”
Sonny fears the worst when he finds Kate unconscious and bleeding, and refuses to leave her side. At the hospital, Leo warns Sonny that Kate’s condition is critical and she is rushed into surgery, leaving Sonny to ponder Claudia’s words. “I don’t think Sonny has feelings for Claudia, be he knows that Claudia is always going to be interfering,” says Maurice Bernard (Sonny). “In fact, she’s kind of like Carly was at first [laughs]. You know that she’s a bad character. These women represent the good side and the bad side [of Sonny]. Even though he loves the good side with Kate, the dark side is going to be there and we know Sonny gravitates to that.
That’s exactly what sonny does when he blames the Zaccharas for Kate’s shooting and vows to make whoever shot her pay with their life. The question is, which Zaccahara will Sonny go after? Claudia is afraid, at least not for herself. “There is an obvious connection between these too characters,” notes Brown. “It’s just a matter of looking at someone and going, ‘I know who you are.’ Only certain people go to those dark places and you can see that in other people when you’re one who does.”
