[Woman chuckles]

Woman: If you’re taking inventory, I can pretty much guarantee I’ve got everything you’re looking for.

Sonny: Leave your shoes on.

[Woman giggles]

Woman: So who is she?

Sonny: Who’s who?

Woman: The woman you’re trying to forget?

Sonny: I don’t know — I seem to have forgotten her.

Woman: You’re not married.

Sonny: Noticed I don’t have a ring on my finger?

Woman: And you didn’t look at the door once, which means you weren’t expecting someone to walk in.

[Sonny sighs]

Woman: You weren’t hoping someone would, either. You weren’t trying to give someone an eyeful. No fears, no agenda, no marriage.

Sonny: What else was I besides good?

Woman: Besides the good parts, you were angry. You’re hurt, and you’re still in love with her.

Woman: I have a prior engagement. We both got what we came for. Why complicate it?

Sonny: What do you call “complicated”?

Woman: Names, numbers — anything much more than this conversation.

Sonny: Hmm. Sounds lonely.

Woman: I’ve known lots of lonely married men, engaged men, family men — all trying to fill little pockets of empty with other people. I don’t need anyone to complete me. I’m enough for me, you get that.

Sonny: Yeah, I do.

Woman: You’re someone solitary and serious –

[Sonny sighs]

Woman: Who gets what you want when you want it, no matter what the price, but you pay later. Sometimes you keep paying. You’re a haunted man.

Sonny: And you know this from one thoroughly enjoyable evening in a hotel room?

Woman: You don’t have to tell me. I’m right.

Sonny: Maybe we’re a lot alike.

Woman: Maybe.

Sonny: If we are, why don’t you tell me what haunts you?

Sonny: You didn’t answer my question. If we’re a lot alike, what haunts you?

Woman: Nothing would ever dare. I’m too scary.

Sonny: You don’t scare me.

Woman: Well, then you’re just not as smart as I thought you were.

Sonny: If — if I need you again, I’m sure I can find you.

Woman: Let’s hope not. A man like you and a woman like me — we’d destroy everything around us for miles.
